Statement of Need: How to comply with the legal requirements under the Family Medical Leave Act
Learning Objectives: At the end of this activity, physicians should be able to:
- Determine if your employer is required to comply with the Family Medical Leave Act.
- Describe what FMLA protections are afforded to eligible employees.
- Describe what constitutes as unlawful interference and retaliation under FMLA.
Faculty: Sheba E. Vine, JD, Senior Director of Compliance, First Healthcare Compliance
As the Senior Director of Regulatory Compliance, Ms. Vine serves as an expert and resource for clients concerning healthcare regulatory matters. Prior to joining First Healthcare Compliance, Ms. Vine was an attorney in private practice, concentrating in litigation and employment law. Ms. Vine is licensed to practice law in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Vine held positions in the medical device industry with Hoffman La-Roche and Siemens. She received her Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law and her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University. Ms. Vine serves as a member of her township’s Business Development Advisory Committee and is a member of the Food Bank of South Jersey Board of Trustees.
